Presentation

In the fifth and final lecture of the 2018 CBC Massey lectures, Tanya Talaga describes the history of genocide against Indigenous people in many places, including Canada, Australia, Brazil and even the Arctic Circle.  Yet she points out that First Peoples have a history of resistance and Indigenous communities are increasingly demanding a political and moral authority over their their own communities.

Discussion

Following the presentation, everyone will have the opportunity to participate in an open and gently moderated dialog.  For each of the 6 sessions in our discussion series, our hope is that the participants will:

  • Understand, in greater depth, the issues facing our society
  • Experience how a healthy and respectful dialog, amongst diverse people, in our local community, is a powerful antidote to divisive rhetoric
  • Identify available paths of action, for bringing about meaningful and positive change
