In the first of the 2017 CBC Massey lectures, Payam Akhavan, shares his story of how, at a young age, his life was forever changed by the tragic death of a young fellow Iranian. This event put Payam on a path, marked by much personal suffering, to eventually become a brilliant and highly respected human rights lawyer and university law professor.
Discussion
Following the presentation, everyone will have the opportunity to participate in an open and gently moderated dialog. For each of the 8 sessions in our discussion series, our hope is that the participants will:
Understand, in greater depth, the issues facing our society
Experience how a healthy and respectful dialog, amongst diverse people, in our local community, is a powerful antidote to divisive rhetoric
Identify available paths of action, for bringing about meaningful and positive change
